Lenovo VIBE P1 Review: Power House of Android Smartphones

Lenovo finally could get the eyeballs rolling towards it with the release of the powerhouse of android phones, Lenovo VIBE P1  with astonishing battery life and latest specifications. I think I won’t be writing the next article of the series of ‘best phones except Lenovo’s’ from now(hopefully) expecting the same wonderful configuration from the future smartphones of Lenovo.

I could not wait to get my hands on the phone but the specifications and the battery life is quite dragging me to review it. Also, thanks to the fans who have been pushing me to review this phone before anything else.

Buckle up, fellas! We’re going into the powerhouse. Get ready to feel the heat!

Design

Lenovo VIBE P1 is beautifully crafted with aluminum metal that looks more like HTC One series of smartphones. The device is constructed with in 75.6 x 4.6-9.9 x 152.9 dimensions which makes it look much thinner than an iPhone 6 on its edges and thicker overall.

The front panel has a speaker grove and camera on the top front and capacitive touch buttons with a fingerprint sensor in between.

The back panel looks so premium with its aluminum body. The fine lines of design that iPhone 6 and HTC One series of smartphones have got adds beauty to the back cover. It gives a rich look to the device too. The back panel has got a camera and dual-tone LED flash.

The whole phone weighs 187 grams which is a bit heaver than the normal. The  powerful battery might have added weight to the body.

The left side of the phone has a  unique battery saving mode switch that is claimed to be doubling the battery life of the smartphone by Lenovo. On the right, it has the power button and volume rocker buttons. There is a 3.5mm headphone jack on the top and the speaker along with microUSB port on the bottom.

Display

VIBE P1 comes with 5.5 inch Full HD 1080p IPS display that can render 401ppi and 16M colors on the screen. The display is 10-point multi-touch display that gives  better hands-on touch user-interface experience.

It seems like Lenovo has finally realized the importance of screen  protection for a smartphone and so installed the display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection this time.

The display will give you very sharp images and HD experience of multimedia applications and gaming very well.

Processor & RAM

Lenovo has embedded Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 64-bit Octa-Core processor ticking at 1.5GHz speed that is supported by 2GB RAM and Adreno 405 GPU clocking at 500MHz.

The chipset configuration will give the best multi-taking and multimedia experience while using, without any lag.

Processing Rating: 3.5/5

Operating System

VIBE P1 comes with Android 5.1 based custom VIBE UI on the board. It is quite appreciable as many other competitors like Asus hasn’t upgraded or isn’t releasing their handsets with 5.1 yet where Android 6.0 Marshmallow is already started rolling out for some other devices.

Operating System Rating: 4/5

Storage

VIBE P1 comes with great internal memory i.e., 32 GB on board and it is expandable up to 128 GB through micro SD card.

Storage Rating: 4/5

Camera

The handset is geared with 13MP rear camera with auto-focus, fast-focus PDFA technology and dual-tone LED flash.

The front camera is a 5MP shooter and it has only fixed focus, yet not bad enough for selfies.

Camera Rating: 3.5/5

Connectivity

Lenovo VIBE P1 supports 4G LTE network in both SIM slots, one at 150Mbps (DL) and another at 50Mbps (UL). Along with that, it has Bluetooth 4.1 LE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, FM Radio, A-GPS, GPRS, EDGE, HSPA+ connectivity features as well.

Connectivity Rating: 3.5/5

Sensors & SAR

The device has gravitational, proximity and light sensors that adapt to the ambience of the environment and device-held position.

The Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) values are low compared to that of K3 Note and other predecessors.

SAR Values – At head: 0.67 0W/Kg, At body: 0.671W/Kg

Sensors & SAR Rating: 3.5/5

Battery

Battery is what we should talk about for Lenovo VIBE P1. It comes with huge 5000mAh battery (4900mAh minimum) Li-Po battery with a supporting Power Saving Switch and 24W Quick Recharge. It can standby for three complete days on heavy usage too.

The battery is what brings weight to the device and makes it look thicker overall (not at edges). If you have habit of using the phone while charging, I recommend you not even to think about it. The power of the battery can do major damage if handled carelessly.

The battery power is a power house and is a dream coming true for a smartphone user to use the phone for more than a couple of days. Anyone using Lenovo VIBE P1 will forget the word ‘Power bank’ at all.

Battery Rating: 5/5

Cons

- Large screen with aluminum body vibes the fear of bending in pocket

- No NFC (as per the specifications on official site as well)
- Could be Gorilla Glass 4 (yet ok at its price point)
- Looks more like HTC One series phones rather being unique
- The processor might give heating issues (also, it has huge 5000mAh battery on board)
- RAM could be 3GB for its price point.

Should you buy it?

The VIBE P1 has no flagship specifications except the battery yet a good device. It has some trending hardware upgrades like fingerprint sensor and fast-focus camera. Dual SIM 4G and 1080p 5.5 inch display, good camera and great powerhouse battery make anyone irresistible.
