Windows users will get this free upgrade valid for one year. Upgrading again for free after that will give them a lifetime upgrade for that device.
Microsoft is looking forward to increasing their userbase for their future versions of the software. Maybe this time, they don’t want to loose old, loyal customers for a whole new technological advancement they have brought in the form of metro tiles.
As said in the past in the release event technical preview, Windows 10 is going to be the OS for all devices. So, the free upgrade will be valid for mobile devices also.
Is Microsoft afraid of Mac OS?
Windows 10 looks and feels a little like Mac OS. Those who had their hands on it by now would have noticed it already. The implementation of endless(frameless) windows with fade-in and out effect and shadow effect for windows shows as if Microsoft is following the Mac OS design trends. The giving away of free upgradation for their ‘new age’ operating system for their old customers also shows the same.
