Ok, cloud is fine! how are you going to store files in it?
To backup or upload files on to the cloud storage, we should have files downloaded onto our computers or smart phones at first. It would be a double cost of bandwidth, to download and to upload them again.
It would be better if we could eliminate the download cost by just uploading files directly from internet to our cloud spaces. For that purpose, we have an Google chrome browser extension called Ballloon that helps us save files from internet to cloud directly.
What is Ballloon?
Ballloon is a Google chrome extension that connects to different cloud storages like Dropbox, Google Dive, One Drive and the Box.After this extension is installed on your browser, you would see an extra option in your right click menu of every webpage.
You can simply choose to store in anyone of the cloud storages your ballloon is connected to. You can save images, PDF files, links and documents easily with one click.
You can also manage the files you saved to your clouds in one place. This is one of the wonderful features ballloon provide. We can organize the files added through ballloon by logging into ballloon website > departures.
How to Install and Setup Ballloon?
Installing and setting up ballloon is an easy task. Go to ballloon.com (mind putting the third ‘L’ also) and ‘Sign in with Google’ to create a new account. Don’t worry! there would be no form filling for creating an account here. Now click on ‘Download for Chrome’ button. It is a 378kb file and will install in a couple of seconds.
Once installed, it will look like this,
Right-click on the ballloon icon and choose ‘Options’.
Check/uncheck the tick under each cloud account to add or remove it from ballloon. When done, close the tab.
Now you can start adding stuff through your ballloon extension with a single click.
Pros:
- Eliminates the download job.
- Easy to add files to the cloud.
- Easy to manage files in one place.
- Toggle connect/disconnect cloud storage accounts.
- Can even store images and links on social networking sites like Facebook.
Cons:
- Can only store images, links and PDF files.
- Cannot store email attachments directly.
- Cannot store text on the webpages.
- Cannot store webpage bookmarks.
- Can even store protected images from social media resulting in privacy loss.
