Microsoft seems to be all set for competition with Google that is offering free group hangouts from long past. Skype group video calls are made free finally. Skype users have been anticipating for the free group video calls from years and finally they made it free. Windows, Mac and Xbox One will be able to use the feature at no cost now.
“In the future, we’ll be enabling group video calling for all our users across more platforms” Says Philip Snalune, Skype blog.
Microsoft offered this feature as a part of premium plan for $8.99 monthly subscription in the past. The package incudes some free calls also along with the group video calls. A single day plan for premium calls costs $4.99 for one complete day.
Skype group calling feature allows ten users at a time in one call either on Windows PC or Mac. Microsoft have changed the policies of group video calling on Skype and it says that one cannot make a group call after 100 hours of conversation per month with a limit of 10 hours per day and 4 hours limit per individual call. Once the limits are reached, the video in the video call will be disconnected and turns into a audio call.
