How To Fix “.exe” File Opening with Notepad or Paint or Any Other Applications

The computer users nowadays are growing so fast as like population. But at the same time they failed to handle their computer with care. So they had to spend lots of money to recover or repair their computer and/or laptop. Two of my friend contacted me to solve the problem that whenever they open an exe file they always went on opening with notepad or paint. After a long try i found the way and fixed their problem without losing any data and without formatting their pc or lap.

This problem occurs if you open any application by using “open with” or by “clicking and dragging” unknowingly. For example if you open “Google Chrome” by clicking and dragging by mistake with “Paint”, each and every software will always open with paint. Most of the problems in windows can be solved by using system restore option and registry editor in windows. But for this problem these two also won’t help and won’t work. Even these two options will also open with paint or display an error message.

I assure you that this post will surely help you to overcome your problem. It is very easy to do. Follow the steps mentioned below with little care. Let’s start from here to fix your problem.

Step 1: First of all open “Task Manager”. To open Task Manager press “Ctrl+Shift+Esc”. This will directly open Task Manager. Or press “Ctrl+Alt+Del” and then choose “Start Task Manager”.

Step 2: Now you are in a Task Manager window. In that, click on “File” and then click on “New task” by holding down “Ctrl” key.

Step 3: This will open “MS-DOS Command” window. In that cmd window type “notepad” and press enter.

Step 4: Now notepad window will open. And this is the main thing which we gonna do to fix your problem. In notepad window copy the following command and paste it.

“Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe\OpenWithList]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe\OpenWithProgids]

"exefile"=hex(0):”

For example see the below picture.........

Step 5: Now save this notepad file as “Exe.reg”.(Give the name as your wish, but should save as “.reg” where ‘reg’ refers to Registry file).

Step 6: And finally right click on that “Exe.reg” file and click on “Merge”.

After clicking on “Merge” just restart your pc or laptop. That’s all. Your problem now solved.
