Creo Mark 1 Full Technical Review: Made In India

The smartphone market has changed a lot in the recent times. Buyers have become liberal in choosing a device that has no brand value in the native place. Since the Xiaomi Mi3 to the Creo Mark 1, the new branded phones are set to make histories proving the peoples decision right.

Creo, the Indian based company has launched its first smartphone into the market with quite interesting specifications at the price point of ₹19,999. I insist you take a have a look at this device before you make any choices.

CREO-Mark-1

Design

Creo Mark 1 looks more like an older Sony Xperia Z3 in terms of design. It even reminds me of One Plus X. The phone is bigger than it looks if you are comparing with the Sony Xperia Z3 compact and One Plus X. It has 5.5 inch screen and is equipped with powerful hardware.

To be precise about the design, Mark 1 has power and volume buttons on the right side which look like buttons of Apple iPhone 5S. People who wanted iPhone 5S with Android operating system will enjoy these buttons shape and touch. On the left it has the SIM slot and micro SD card slot side-by-side. The top side have a 3.5mm audio jack and on the bottom side it has the micro USB slot and speakers.

On the front, the phone has a 5.5 inch screen with an 8MP camera on the top along with the call speaker and at the bottom, it has the capacitive touch buttons. The gun metal black back panel has a 21MP camera with dual tone flash and the Creo logo in the center.

The phone is 8.7mm thinner and weighs 190gms. You can feel some weight with this phone in hand.

Verdict:

The whole design looks good and stylish.

Display

Mark 1 features a 5.5 inch QHD LTPS-LCD display that has a pixel density of 534ppi and can render graphics of 1440x2560px resolution. The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 3.0 giving it an added protection from scratches.

A phone with 534ppi and the 2K display will give you beyond the HD experience. It is good to see an Android phone in the mid-range category with a 2K display. The first device I know with 2K display was Microsoft Lumia 950.

Verdict:

The display is great. If you wanted a phone with sharper and super HD display, you must look at the Creo Mark 1.

Performance

Powered with MediaTek Helio X10 A53 Octa-core processor that runs at 1.95GHz, supported by 3GB LPDDR3 RAM and PowerVR G6200 GPU, Creo Mark 1 is impressively good with the chipset configuration.

Mark1 runs on Android 5.1.1 based custom operating system called ‘Fuel OS’. This Lollipop version is a stable one compared to its previous 5.0. So, it should deliver a seamless experience with that hardware configuration. Though it is a custom OS, the UI looks close to stock Android.

As the company promised, the performance is going to get update by May 13th in terms of system software.

Verdict:

Gaming and multitasking would be great with HelioX10 processor supported by 3GB RAM and G6200 GPU. But, when compared with the Le1S with the same chipset at better clocking speed, the price tag of Rs.19,999 seems too much.

Camera

Creo Mark 1 sports a 21MP rear camera that is powered with Sony IMX230 sensor. It can capture 4K video @30fps and slow motion @120fps in full HD with f/2.0 aperture. The camera has Dual Tone LED flash, Phase Detection Autofocus, and Advanced Noise Reduction features.

The front camera is a 8MP shooter with the wide angle coverage ability to 86 degrees. It can also take pictures at f/2.0 and record videos of 1080p @30fps.

Creosense has announced the future updates of this phone’s camera. It is likely to get the screen flash for front camera and a photo editor by May 13th 2016.

Verdict:

The camera module is great on this phone. The specification should give the best picture quality and super slow motion video that Apple iPhones would have at 120fps.

You won’t get a mid-range Android phone with 120fps (iPhone like) slow motion. Get Creo Mark 1 from Flipkart now.

Storage

Creo Mark 1 comes with 32GB internal memory and can be expanded up to 128GB through a micro SD card.

The future update will bring automatic background data manager for Fuel OS by May 13th 2016.

Verdict:

32GB ROM is not a flagship killer memory at this price point nor even the worst. The expandability up to 128GB is good. It’s a ‘YES’ in terms of memory for me.

Connectivity

This is a dual SIM phone that supports LTE bands in both the slots. It supports 4G and 3G networks of all Indian bands. It has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, micro USB and OTG connectivity. You can see the wireless and GPS specifications as shown below:

WIFI - 802.11 n/ac/b/g Wireless Display (Miracast) Support
Bluetooth - BT4.0 (BLE supported)
GPS - Supports GPS, GLONASS, BEIDOU
GSM(2G) - Band 8 (900MHz), Band 3 (1800Mhz), Band 5 (850MHz), Band 2 (1900 MHz)
WCDMA(3G) - Band 8 (900MHz), Band 1 (2100MHz), Band 2 (1900MHz), Band 5 (850MHz)
TD-LTE(4G) - Band 40 (2300MHz)
FDD-LTE(4G) - Band 3 (1800MHz), Band 8 (900MHz.

Verdict:

Creo Mark 1 has all the connectivity features that are needed. In terms of connectivity, Creo Mark 1 is good to go with.

Mark 1 has all the basic sensor that a smartphone of today would need. It also has FM radio, fast charging and OTG support.

Verdict:

Good input and connectivity

Battery

Mark 1 sports a 3,100mAh Li-ion battery with that can long last a day on low usage. The 2K resolution screen can suck up the battery life quicker than estimated.

Verdict:

The battery won’t disappoint you but yet could have been much better for 2K screen and Helio X10 Octa-Core processor.

Pros

+ Good design
+ Very good display
+ Powerful chipset
+ Good camera with slow motion @120fps
+ Fast charging

Cons

- Thicker & heavier
- Looks overpriced when compared with other handsets

Final Verdict

Creo Mark 1 has a great hardware configuration, sharpest display and nice camera with the people’s favorite 120fps slow motion capturing. Though the battery isn’t that bigger, the phone puts on weight and looks bulky compared to other heavy battery phones. Le1S, with the same chipset configuration, is available for Rs.10,999 but Creo Mark 1 tags the price of Rs.19,999.

In fact, Creo Mark 1 has better camera and display compared to Le1S. Yet, it could have been priced in the range of Rs.15,000-18,000.
